From 1st-14th November, 1914, the 1st Shropshire Light Infantry battalion of 16 Brigade, 6th Division were in trenches at Rue du Bois, near Fleurbaix where their positions came under shell and sniper fire on a daily basis. On 9th November the battalion diary recorded that by 3pm the enemy snipers were ‘very troublesome’ and that one of their victims was William Badcock who was shot at 5pm. |
